A Few Clarifications & Some Fun Stuff
Hello everyone,
The private clubs across the escarpment had the opportunity to meet with our representative from Grey Bruce Public Health via ZOOM on Thursday and were provided with some additional clarity on the new government protocols that apply to ski areas.
Much of what was relayed in Wednesday’s email bulletin remains unchanged, particularly with respect to food and beverage consumption allowed outdoors only and Alpine Programs being able to run as planned.
Here’s what’s new:
- The new regulations allow for access to indoors for health and safety reasons (cold, frostbite) however the public health recommendation is that time be limited to 15 minutes specifically for warm up, washroom access, locker access and to purchase food and beverage (for outdoor consumption).
- The playroom is temporarily closed, per government regulations. Our plan is to re-open the playroom when regulations permit.
Some “fun stuff” this weekend:
- We got lots of snow on Thursday! Powder coming down all day long. Combined with all the snow we made this week, conditions will be excellent with all lifts operating and all runs with snowmaking coverage open – including the V-hill lift and trails. Snowshoeing will also be great!
- We are offering “extended” lift hours on Little John on Saturday – the Little John Chair will operate through to 6:00 p.m. instead of closing at 4:00 p.m. And we will turn the lights on as dusk arrives to keep you going to 6:00! Food and bar service will be available for outdoor consumption. And there will be some excellent take home options available for the cafeteria for your Saturday night enjoyment!
- The GDHL – our in house adult racing league - holds its first race of the season this Sunday (January 9th) at 1pm on Big John. This is a GS race. Inspection will be open approximately 20-40 minutes before start time. Participants can pickup bib this Saturday (January 8th) between 12pm and 3pm at the Big John finish hut. Drop by when you can.
And to clarify:
- The Base Lodge South End Vestibule Doors are expected to be open for this weekend, as we have been advised that all items required for occupancy should be complete by end of day today. The construction fencing will be adjusted to provide access from the parking lot and a walking surface will be created from the Squire John’s trailer.
Work on the new stairs from the vestibule to Little John continues and we are expecting that access route to be available soon. In the meantime, access to the lifts is available along the front of the Base Lodge. For safety reasons we ask that you please avoid taking skis up the interior staircase from the locker room to the main level of the Base Lodge. We thank everyone for their patience during this phase of construction.
See you on the weekend,
Natalie Bennett
